This recipe must be followed EXACTLY

3 cups sugar

2/3 cup cocoa powder

1/8 teaspoon salt

1 ½ cups whole milk

½ stick butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract


In a saucepan, place sugar, cocoa powder, & salt.  Stir in milk, and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture begins to boil.  Continue boiling until candy thermometer reads 243 degrees, or mixture reaches soft ball stage.  Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla extract.  Beat with wooden spoon for 7 minutes.  Spread mixture into shallow baking dish.  Allow to cool about 10 minutes and cut into squares.
