Rob Helton

Rob Helton

Rob Helton grew up in the church in Southern Indiana singing the 'old hymns'. At 6 yrs old he sang a duet with his brother in front of an audience for the first time. Rob states, 'I knew at an early age what my calling was and started preparing for it,' Rob was saved December 4th , 1981 and he says, 'since then it has been a roller coaster ride, but God has never failed yet'. While singing in various musicals and performing in contest throughout his middle school and high school days, Rob won 1st place honors at both the district and state level in the solo category his senior year. Rob graduated from High school in 1990. From there he attended Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN where he majored in vocal music and Christian ministries. IWU was where Rob began to get really serious about music. Rob states, 'I was chosen as the Tenor of a quartet formed named 'One Accord'. We traveled throughout the US and Canada to churches, camps, and even a jail sharing the gospel as a public relations group for the university. I did that for two and half years.' While in college Rob got the opportunity to sing at Bill Gaither's Praise Gathering with the University Chorale. Rob went solo in 1994 and did concerts all over the country until 1997. Rob explains, 'In July of 1997, on my 25th birthday, I started off to Nashville to attend 'Stamps Baxter School of Music'. It forever changed me. I learned so much vital information during those two weeks. I develop some great friendships as well as learned so much about many aspect of Southern Gospel music. On the recommendation of Mr. Ben Speer, Rob had his first professional audition with 'The Palmetto State Quartet”. 'It was a great learning experience for me,' Rob states. Since that time, he has continued to sing in various venues(sharing the stage with such artist as Michael English, Brian Free and Assurance, The Kingsmen, Dove Brothers, The Anchorman, Jonathan White and HisSong) spreading the word of God's amazing grace and forgiveness. Most recently, he sang lead for 'Ed Crawford and The Mystery Men'. He also competed in the 2007 National Quartet Convention Solo Talent Contest where he finished 3rd overall and was the highest placing male in the competition. Due to his life experiences, he feels his call is to share with people that no matter how bad things get in life we can still be used by God. Rob says, 'I want the theme of my ministry to be that although we all have hurts, habit, and hang-ups with God we can have the victory.' Rob's ministry is best described by Psalms 115:1 “Not to us O Lord, but to you goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness.” Rob thanks all the people who have stood by him through the years and that are still praying for him on a continual basis. It has been greatly appreciated. Rob resides in Mitchell, Indiana with his wife Amy and their two dogs 'Lucky' and 'Runaround'.
