Crock Pot Apple Butter

5 lbs apples
2 cups sugar
1 - 2 tbs ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves

Peel and core apples. Cut into one-inch chunks. Place apples in crock pot and sprinkle sugar on top. Sprinkle cinnamon over apple and sugar mixture, then sprinkle cloves on top. Cook for one hour on high. Reduce heat to low and cook for 11 hours, stirring every two to three hours. When stirring the last time, use a whisk for smoother apple butter. Spoon apple butter into sterilized canning jars. Screw on lids and rings and let cool. The heat from the apple butter will seal the jars, so there is no need for a hot water bath or pressure canner. Makes approximately 4 1/2 pints.
